Federal Stafford Master Promissory Note
Accepting a Federal Stafford Loan also requires the completion of a master promissory note (MPN). Your MPN is the legal paperwork securing the loan for this academic year. It automatically combines any loans taken at UC over 10 years under one note, making repayment easier. Student borrowers, therefore, often complete only one Stafford MPN while in college.
NOTE: The Stafford MPN should be completed only after accepting Federal Stafford Loans as part of your award package.
Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation's FASTLoans Web product allows UC students to easily complete their MPN online. To do so, you will need to have the following:
Assuming you have the above items, you can proceed to the online Stafford MPN. You will need to create an account if you have not previously used a Great Lakes Web product. The account you create can also be used to continually track your loan and loan borrowing over your academic career.

LOAN ENTRANCE COUNSELING All new UC Stafford Loan borrowers must complete loan entrance counseling in order to receive loan funds. The online Stafford MPN will automatically direct you to complete this step of the process if you have not previously completed the FASTFacts loan counseling process.
Students completing a Stafford MPN after July 1, 2007, will be required to complete FASTFacts (even if they have previously completed another version of loan counseling) in order to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
